IT’S DAY 17 of 28 x 20. You’ve come a long way, bb. For the next 25 minutes or so, we’re going to block out the noise around us. Stretch a little. Shake off life, work, and world matters for right now. It’ll all still be there when we’re done, but we’ll feel better for having protected our precious time.

In The Art of Memoir, Mary Karr writes, “from the second you choose one event over another, you’re shaping the past’s meaning.” This is one of the ways we manipulate time in personal narrative. Today, instead of choosing one event over another, we’re going to explore primary and secondary events — one time, two stories.
